Visit Vesuvius And Pompeii on your Holiday to Italy!
Pompeii and Herculaneum are two ancient towns which were destroyed and buried by a violent eruption of the Vesuvio vulcano nearby the actual city of Naples and which were Forgotten about until they were rediscovered in the 18th century. Many excavations have been done since then to uncover these cities and their treasures.
For the past 250 years Pompeii has attracted many tourists and a large number of the artifacts from the city are preserved in the Naples National Archaelogical Museum where they can be seen today.
If you are keen to see some classic remenants of Roman history then these would be the places to visit. The area around Vesuvius is also a national park and the summit is open to visitors so you can actually stand at the crater of the volcano.
