Spend a few lovely days in Ferrara city!
The gorgeous city of Ferrara in the region of Emilia Romagna in northern Italy is a wonderful destination to base your Italian holiday! Its beauty and rich cultural heritage has earned it a UNESCO World Heritage Site award, which means it’s an ideal tourist location to visit.
The city is surrounded by over nine kilometres of ancient Renaissance walls! Like the walled city of Lucca, these monuments of history are among the best preserved Renaissance walls in Italy. Why not spend a few hours walking around the perimeter and admiring this great feat in decorative and protective architecture?
As you head into the town centre, you’ll be met with the magnificent sight of a huge well preserved fortress called Castello Estense. This castle is surrounded by a real moat and has four majestic bastions towering up within the structure. The views from the roof of this ancient building are spectacular. Also, be sure to explore the exterior and interior architecture of Ferrara’s cathedral.
