Camping is defined as to reside or lodge somewhere temporarily. Whether you are camping out under the stars or going in an RV, camping somewhere away from civilization is such a welcome experience. Over the years, I have experienced many different situations that required different equipment. My wife and I like to set up our wall tent when we go out for archery season. When camping in the 12×14 wall tent, I love setting up my XL cot with a thermarest pad and a foam mattress for under my sleeping bag and I use a full size pillow. I always hook up my cot caddy to put my headlamp, phone, and anything else I need at my disposal. We like to cook extra meals throughout the summer and vacuum seal predetermined portions that we freeze to eat while at camp. It’s pretty easy to have a week’s worth of food all frozen together in the cooler.

If I’m carrying my camp in my pack on my back, the needs are completely different. Every ounce of weight matters and all of my equipment changes from the luxury of the big tent. We like to use a 3 man tent for two of us and lightweight air mattresses and my Marmot Hydrogen bag still works perfectly. Now we use a Jetboil and Mountain House freeze dried meals for breakfast and dinner. I like dried fruit and different energy bars to snack on during the day. It is also important to carry a water filter, a quality knife, and good water bladder. The rest in your pack depends on how many days and what you are doing on the trip.

No matter where or when you go camping, the important part is that you go. Find the time, choose a place, and go. We only have one life to live…
